The Deck Sydney has an exciting opportunity for a Sous Chef to showcase their passion in creative cuisine and share their expertise with the Kitchen Brigade.

We are currently seeking an experienced and dynamic Sous Chef to join our close knit, professional and friendly kitchen team. This is an opportunity not to be missed, to represent one of Australia's most well-known and iconic brands.

As a valued member of the Kitchen team you will work in a well-equipped and modern kitchen maintained with HACCP accreditation and high standards of quality and hygiene. 

About the role

Reporting to and assisting the Head Chef with the day to day operations, your role will encompass:

  • Taking responsibility for the daily operation of the kitchen and providing professional leadership and direction to kitchen and floor staff when required
  • Assisting in team member management, including supervising, training, developing, motivating and mentoring junior chefs and kitchen porters
  • The facilitation of smooth and well managed service periods
  • Menu planning, ordering, stocktake and financial management
  • Head chef responsibilities, in the absence of the head chef

To be successful in this role you will need

  • Proven industry experience working in a quality establishment making exceptional food in high volume a la carte setting; with the ability to produce both classic and modern dishes
  • Hold a relevant culinary qualification from a recognised training institution
  • HACCP, Food Safety and WH&S awareness and practice
  • Display creativity and passion for food
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Flexibility with working hours, with availability to work a range of shifts over 7 days, predominately Wednesday through Sundays
  • The ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines maintaining an even temperament
  • Able to respond to and thrive amongst new initiatives, changing conditions and shifting priorities
